How can you tell if a Marc by Marc Jacobs purse is real or fake?
I had just bought the Marc by Marc Jacobs strippy zippy groovee satchel at Saks Fifth Avenue last Sunday in the color "cognac". I wanted to find the picture of it online so I can show my sister which purse I had bought. HOWEVER, when i checked online, no places carried this purse in the color "cognac", even saks fifth avenue. I thought that it might be either an older color or a new one, and that is why the stores only offer "black, red, and eggplant (aubergine)". I got this purse in the shiny leather... they had those in black and bright red.... The purse looks authentic... but HELP?!? Is it fake???
I called saks fifth to ask, and the lady, who could barely understand english... was like "we no sell in cognac, only black" and what was frustrating was that she was the one who helped me purchase the purse only 3 days ago!
Also, if it is fake I would want to return it even if people won't be able to tell it is fake. I don't want to spend over 500 dollars on something that is fake.
First off, check the stitching. If it is big or really sloppy then it's probably not real. The stitching should be small and neat. Also, check the tags. The tag should say "Marc Jacobs" on it. if it doesn't ahve a name on the tag ro has no tag it's probably fake. Look for things to see if it is authentic. Look for a serial number, a stamp inside that says the brand (may not be in all bags). Also, check and see if the logo is true when it comes out of a dust bag. For example, most knockoff Chanel bags have interlocking Os instead of Cs. This actually makes it legal to sell. Then they snip it to make it look real when it comes out. Beware of this.
